Home Sweet Home

It's been a while since my last post, but I saw this quote in this month's Veranda magazine. This sums up my personal style, and interior design aesthetic in one complete sentence that I've never been able to quite put into words.

"Our Home has evolved over time, layer upon layer, into a truthful representation of who we are. It is not a status symbol and certainly lacks pretension."

So here is the article featuring my house in the April issue of Portico Jackson magazine. I'd like to think it fits the quote above.

Mix & Match

I have loved my new furniture line since the moment we met! Most girls love diamonds... I love upholstery.

After picking out this ethnic yet neutral print for a piece for the floor, I ran across the same print on the shade of a lamp from one of my favorite manufacturers.

How could this be? What are the chances?  I couldn't help but put them together. Matching is so unlike my personal taste, but I like the unexpected element it would bring to a room. I would balance it by having other pieces not matching in the room, like the side tables or coffee table...mixing wood and mirror.

Designers have been matching wall coverings, and fabrics for decades. And yes, this look could be percieved as dated. But, done intentionally with some restraint could be interesting... hmm?
My messy work room.
I've been pulling fabrics for pieces for the store, as well as clients.

It's cute together huh?!  What do you think? Would you put matching pieces in your house?

Pattern Play

I've been thinking lately... Can you have too much pattern in a room?
Does your sofa HAVE to be beige (with pops of colors in the pillows, (without being too crazy, of course)?
So when it comes to upholstery, how much is too much?!

When chosing fabrics for furniture pieces, one must consider the frame of the piece in proportion to the fabrics print. Be sure that the pattern isn't confused by tufting or pleats. If a large pattern is used, the frame should be simple.

I love great colors, and prints for fabric choices! I say more is more! Keep your drapery simple and your lamps cool.

Here are some of my favorite prints from our in store furniture line, C.R. Laine.

I am dying to put this Duquette Melon fabric on a pair of chairs.
Honeysuckle is color of the year btw!

Worldly Influences

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to my first post on my new blog. I' ll be posting occasionally about my current Interior Design projects, and inspirations; as well as all things art and fashion related.

As I was thinking about what subject to write my first blog on, I noticed the recent trend in tribal influenced pieces. In fashion, as well as furnishings...going hand in hand.
Below, you'll find some pics I've pulled from different online sources and magazines.
As well as pieces you can find in the shop, Mosaic.. My shop that is. Enjoy!
